
Gaga was introduced to performing artist Lady Starlight during this time and, following a performance at Lollapalooza Festival in 2007 Gaga was signed by Vince Herbert to Streamline Records, an imprint of Interscope Records. While working as an apprentice songwriter for an internship with Famous Music Publishing, which was later acquired by Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Gaga was then able to sign a music publishing deal with Sony/ATV. Gaga was hired to compose music for Britney, Fergie, New Kids on the Block, and the Pussycat dolls. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. The album that Gaga released in 2008 "The Fame" received only moderate media coverage. Gaga went on tour in Europe and in the US to promote her album. But it was not until her 2009 smash "Just Dance," that widespread attention was paid to her music. Gaga suffered a labral tear in her right hip which she was nursing in secret for a number of weeks in belief that she would be able to continue her tour. After performing in Toronto the singer was unable walk and was in extreme pain. She was taken to the hospital, and her tour was cancelled.
